Diamond Pritchel
The Diamond Pritchel is an essential farrier hand tool used for opening, clearing and refining nail holes in horseshoes. It features a long, tapered steel body with a pointed working end, giving the farrier direct, controlled access to individual nail holes while preparing a shoe at the anvil.
Nail-hole preparation is an important part of fitting a horseshoe correctly. Although many shoes are supplied with factory-punched holes, a farrier may need to clean, size or adjust them during the fitting process. The pritchel is used to ensure that holes are clear and suitable for the nails selected for the job. Proper hole preparation can support accurate nail placement and help the farrier fit the shoe according to the horse’s hoof shape and shoeing plan.
The Diamond Pritchel’s slim design makes it easy to handle and store. It can be carried in a farrier apron, tool roll or mobile shoeing kit, making it a practical companion for farriers who travel between clients. For South African farriers, this is especially useful when working across different settings such as equestrian estates, training centres, stud farms, agricultural properties and private stables.
Use the pritchel on a stable, suitable anvil and apply controlled force. Depending on the shoe material and the work being performed, it may be used alongside a fullering hammer, punch, tongs and other shoeing tools. As every hoof is different, shoe modifications should be made only by a competent farrier who can assess the horse’s foot, balance, hoof wall and intended workload.
This tool is intended for professional farrier use or for apprentices working under skilled supervision. The pointed end should be handled with care and stored safely when not in use. Regularly inspect the tool for bending, excessive wear or damage, and keep it clean and dry to preserve its condition.
The Diamond Pritchel is a reliable choice for farriers who need a straightforward, durable tool for precise nail-hole work. Add it to your Diamond farrier tool collection to support accurate horseshoe preparation, professional fitting and consistent hoof-care standards
