Who We Are
At Colesdale, we take pride in manufacturing and distributing our own line of Endeavon supplements and medicines for horses and pets. We are also renowned distributors of Royal Kerckhaert premium horseshoes, Uptite Horse Poultice, and other internationally acclaimed brands.
Conveniently located at the Summerveld Training Centre in Kwazulu-Natal, we are nestled in the heart of the equestrian community. From this central hub, we efficiently cater to the needs of farriers, shops, and owners throughout Southern Africa. Our trusted courier partners ensure timely and reliable product delivery.

Our History
In the late 1980s, an entrepreneur and businessman by the name of Pat Coles successfully built a business in Durban, manufacturing motor vehicle batteries and supplying them to various businesses in the Kwa-Zulu Natal area.
However, Pat decided that it was time to take early retirement to embark on a new adventure fuelled by his lifelong passion for horses.
With plenty of time on his hands, Pat finally fulfilled his dream of owning a racehorse. He joyfully purchased Russian Wing, who went on to have a remarkable racing career.
This allowed Pat to immerse himself in the world of horse racing, and his curiosity grew. He wanted to discover ways to make the horses happier, healthier, and perform at their best.
This led him to discover and experiment with new products from different manufacturers, all with the goal of improving his own horses’ well-being and performance.
Driven by his love for horses and his sharp business sense, Pat dedicated himself to learning about the horse racing industry in South Africa. In the early 1990s, he began importing products that were not available in South Africa for his horses. Some of these premium brands included The Royal Kerckhaert horseshoes, and Uptite horscare.
As other horse owners, trainers, and farriers noticed these imported products, they started approaching Pat for advice. With a motivation to help others, he willingly shared his knowledge and began placing larger orders to cater to the growing demand within the industry.
Before he knew it, Pat’s passion for horses transformed his family home in Hillcrest into a bustling horseshoe warehouse. The walls were adorned with related products, thanks to his relationship with the Kerckhaert family from the Netherlands, owners of the Royal Kerckhaert company. This relationship, which continued to this day, ensured Pat always had access to premium horseshoes and nails.
Pat’s pursuit of perfection didn’t stop there. As he delved deeper into the world of racehorses, he explored horse supplements. This was when he started importing the Uptite brand from the USA and distributing it in South Africa.
Not content with relying solely on external products, Pat’s wealth of knowledge and experience in horse welfare and the industry led him to develop his own range of formulas under the Endeavon brand. These formulas proved successful and have since been widely used in the industry for decades.
What started as a hobby for Pat soon turned into a thriving business. His days were filled with mixing supplements, buying and selling horseshoes, and being actively involved in training, buying, selling, and breeding his racehorses.
By the late 1990s, Pat had transitioned from a retired man to a full-time entrepreneur in the horse racing and care industry.
In the early 2000s, Gold Circle recognised Pat’s expertise and passion and granted him the opportunity and permission to use an old stable building at Summerfield to stock and distribute his products to the horse racing industry.
Starting with just one room, the business quickly expanded to encompass all available buildings in the area. The space became home to a retail shop, a warehouse for storing products and equipment, and rooms dedicated to manufacturing and mixing their supplements.
Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, the business experienced rapid growth. Although Pat had retired two decades earlier, he took immense pride in watching the company and its products flourish.
In 2013 Pat’s beloved wife, Mabel, sadly passed away. This led to him focusing all his time and energy on the business and became Pat’s way of finding solace and joy. It gave his family and his son (and now owner) Brian joy to see the pleasure it brought to Pat’s life.
During this year, Pat also discovered two valuable additions to his team: Sipho and Nelly. Later, Theresa joined as an assistant manager. These individuals shared Pat’s vision and dedication and became integral to the business.
By the year 2020, the business had grown to such an extent that Pat often remarked, “The business is just too big for me.” Over the years, there had been numerous offers to purchase the company, but Pat’s love for the business, the satisfaction it brought him, and the pride he felt made him unwilling to part with it.
Pat tirelessly worked in the business until his final day in late 2022 when he sadly passed away. He left behind a legacy that inspired awe and a thriving company in an excellent place to be developed into a new modern business positioned toward continued growth.
The torch is now carried by Pat’s son Brian Coles, who established the company as Colesdale Pty Ltd in 2023. With Pat’s expertise, knowledge, and foundation, along with the support of Brian’s wife Claire, Theresa assuming the role of general manager and the addition of Alistair to the team, Colesdale Pty Ltd embarked on a new chapter.
Nelly and Sipho, with their knowledge, experience, enthusiasm, and expertise, now stand strong alongside newcomers Wisdom, Thola, and Mthobisi. Together, they form a dedicated team, supported by a vast network of suppliers worldwide.
Colesdale Pty Ltd aims to continue Pat’s legacy, developing and growing into a business that would serve the horse racing industry with the same passion and commitment for many years to come.
